Autumn - Photography

It is Autumn! Which is awesome for picture taking in the woods ;)
I am a photographer in my spare time, and today I had a job taking some photos of a lovely little boy. He had so much fun with my daughter (that has to come as I am alone with her).

It is not always easy to make a spare time job to work with being a single mom, but this one does! My daughter has been used to being with my in the studio and outside for photoshoots, so it is no problem at all. Usually she actually helps the other kids feel more comfortable with having their picture taken, so it's really a win-win situation.

Here's a few pictures I took of my daughter before and after the photoshoot :)

How to get around

As you can imagine, it's not really a wealthy life as a single mom, so I cannot afford a car.
In Denmark you pay 180% taxes on a new car, so you can imagine how expensive they are!

So I take the public transportation and my bicycle.
In the city I live in they have made bicycle/walking paths away from the streets, so it is very safe to bike! My daughter can bike to and from daycare with out being afraid of cars coming to close. It is awesome!!

It is not like that in most cities, but even other places there are always bikepaths next to the streets, so it is pretty safe to bike.
I have a child seat on my bike so I can have my daughter on my bike if we have to go far. Children are aloud to sit in them from they are around 10 months old.

Here you can see bikes in Copenhagen

Here is a mom with 2 seats on!

And then there is the public transportation. I use mostly the busses and the "s" train, which goes around the capital area. I live in a suburb to Copenhagen, so public transportation is very good here. The train goes every 10 minutes and the busses go between every 5-20 minutes, depending on which line I take.

And even our buses get a moustache on for Movember ;)

The wonder book!

Carl-Johan Forssén's book "The rabbit who wants to fall asleep"
My daughter has always had trouble falling asleep at night, and I have tried EVERYTHING! It would take between 1-2 hours every night. What a nightmare....
Then this book came out in Danish in October and I thought I'd give it a try, and IT WORKS!
Its a miracle! I have used it for 10 days now, and I have never read the book till the end, as she falls asleep between 2-7 pages in.
It is such a joy now to tuck her in at night, and she understands that she has to lay still, rela and listen to the story.
I can only recommend this book! I know it doesn't work for all kids, but here it surely works!
I do think they have to be at least around 3 years old to understand it though.

I hope this will help other parents (and kids)

Why a blog!?

I was thinking to myself the other day, "How is it being a single mother in other countries in the world?" and really, I have no idea.. But maybe other people where thinking the same and I would be able to tell about my life as a single mom in Denmark.

The happiest people in the world
I live in Denmark, the country with happiest people in the world. And as a single parent I will add "the best country to be a single mom in" for sure! Now I don't know exactly how it is in other countries, but I can say that in Denmark you get a lot of help.
As you may or may not know, in Denmark we get something called SU, which is essentially money for being in school. So in stead of paying for a college, we get money to go to one; that is free of course. AND as a single mom you get DOUBLE that amount!
Also if you don't make a lot of money (as you don't do when in school) you get free childcare as well.
The government also give you an amount of money for having a child, and as a single mom you get extra of that too.
AND SO MUCH MORE.....

So financially it is not too tough when being a single parent (as I can imagine it being in other countries)

It is hard though, I am not gonna lie. It is always difficult to be the only one doing EVERYTHING in a household. But it is also very giving! I get to be there ALWAYS, so I don't miss when my little princess does something amazing.

So who am I?
My name is Louise and I am 23 years old. I have a 3 year old daughter and we live in our new townhouse with our two cats, Rosa and Viola. We moved into this place 1-2 months ago from a 1 bedroom apartment. Now we have 3 bedrooms!! What a difference!
I go to college to become a teacher (I have a little less than 2 years left) and I teach at a school part time. And in my spare time I photograph kids, pregnant and families in my home studio. I also like to knit, crochet and do other stuff.

I will post some of the stuff I do too :)

So welcome to my little world
